Elegoo filament specs: the product-page tables, X-Y vs Z strength and drying

Published October 15, 202614 sources

Short answer

Elegoo's filament pages carry a Specifications table in place of a linked data sheet. It lists drying settings, nozzle, bed and chamber temperatures, a print speed ceiling, density, Vicat and heat deflection at 0.45 MPa, plus tensile, bending and impact results in both X-Y and Z [3]. No test standards are named. A separate drying table in the Elegoo Wiki gives different times and, for ASA, a lower temperature than the product page [1, 11].

What the Specifications table lists

No separate TDS is linked from Elegoo’s filament pages. Each page instead has a Specifications section in four groups. The first covers preparation: a drying setting, whether drying is recommended or required, and the plate type. The second gives printing settings: minimum nozzle size, whether an enclosure and bed glue are needed, a storage humidity limit of 20% RH, and nozzle, bed and chamber temperatures with a print speed ceiling. The last two groups hold physical properties (density, melt index, melting point, Vicat, HDT at 0.45 MPa) and mechanical results for tensile strength, elongation, bending strength and modulus, and impact, each split into X-Y and Z [3].

The table names no test standard and does not say how specimens were made; the X-Y and Z labels imply printed bars. The bed range carries a qualifier that it depends on the printer and plate. Chamber temperature is 20–45 °C for the PLA grades and 45–60 °C for ABS, ASA, PC and PAHT-CF, all four of which require an enclosure [3, 10, 11, 13, 14].

X-Y versus Z strength

Publishing both directions shows how much each material loses across layers. PLA drops from 38 MPa in X-Y to 23 MPa in Z, and its impact value from 66.2 to 12.5 kJ/m² [3]. PLA Silk keeps the smallest share, 5 MPa in Z against 26 MPa in X-Y [7]. ABS and ASA keep more of their strength, at 29 of 35 MPa and 30 of 35 MPa [10, 11]. Carbon fiber raises X-Y strength far more than Z: PAHT-CF lists 87 MPa in X-Y and 41 MPa in Z [14]. Parts that load layers in tension are covered under layer separation.

Heat resistance across the line

At 0.45 MPa the PLA grades sit between 54 °C (Silk) and 57 °C (PLA, Rapid PLA Plus), PETG Pro at 73 °C and Rapid PETG at 72 °C [7, 3, 5, 8, 9]. ABS lists 85 °C, ASA 99 °C, PC 109 °C and PAHT-CF 194 °C; TPU 95A has no HDT or Vicat [10, 11, 13, 14, 12]. PAHT-CF gives 225 °C as both its Vicat point and its melting temperature [14]. Product text sometimes rounds differently: the PC page says the material holds up to 107 °C, two degrees below its listed HDT [13]. The heat resistance chart compares these with other brands.

Drying: product pages versus the Elegoo Wiki

Product pages give one setting per material, always for 8 hours: 50 ± 5 °C for the PLA grades, 60 ± 5 °C for PETG, 70 ± 5 °C for ABS and TPU 95A, and 80 ± 5 °C for ASA, PC and PAHT-CF [3, 8, 10, 12, 11, 13, 14]. The wiki table differs: 55 ± 5 °C for 6 h for PLA, 8–10 h for PETG, 4–6 h for ABS and 6–12 h for PC. For ASA it gives 70 ± 5 °C for 4–8 h, ten degrees below the product page [1]. The filament table uses the product-page values and notes the wiki figure.

The wiki recommends a forced-air drying cabinet and rules out microwaves and kitchen ovens. It suggests storage at 15–25 °C below 30% RH [1]. The drying planner and the drying guide cover the method.

Speed ceilings and nozzle notes

Speed limits run from below 60 mm/s for TPU 95A to below 600 mm/s for Rapid PLA Plus and Rapid PETG; standard PLA is capped below 300 mm/s and PC and PAHT-CF below 100 mm/s [12, 5, 9, 3, 13, 14]. Feature text on some pages disagrees with the table. The PLA Matte page mentions speeds up to 70 mm/s, and the Rapid PLA Plus page cites 250 mm/s on Elegoo’s Neptune 4 printers [6, 5]. No page gives a maximum volumetric speed, so a max volumetric speed test is the way to find one.

The PC table accepts nozzles of 0.2 mm and up, but the notes on the same page rule out 0.2 mm and recommend hardened steel [13]. The PLA Silk table also asks for a hardened steel nozzle of at least 0.4 mm [7].

Spool weights

Most pages list an empty spool at 154 ± 10 g. PLA Silk lists 174 ± 5 g and TPU 95A 165 ± 5 g [3, 7, 12]. Subtracting the right tare before using the filament weight calculator avoids a 10–20 g error on those two.

Safety: the Elegoo Wiki ranks ABS as the strongest-smelling material in its range and calls for good ventilation and an enclosure when printing it [2].
